I’m a homeschool mom and beginning to suspect my 9 year old daughter is experiencing dyslexia. She was in a Waldorf school from PreK through 1st grade which we loved until the plandemic when the school began following the mainstream agenda. I have been homeschooling her the last couple of years and while she is very bright and super interested in topics like sacred geometry, true ancient history, art/handwork, cooking and spirituality, her basic reading and math skills are not advancing. She becomes extremely frustrated to the point of shutting down and needing to be alone for a couple hours when we approach these topics and I have tried SO MANY different ways of working on these things with her, but nothing has worked for us yet.

I’m wondering if anyone has resources/ideas that may be able to help.

I am on lecture 2 of Steiner’s ‘Education for Special Needs’ and look forward to listening to all 7 hours as it has been helpful so far. Here is a link if anyone else is interested.

Hi! I can 100% relate to your challenges. My 9yo was showing the same tendencies, and after learning more about dyslexia, I actually believe my 11yo and 7yo may have a less extreme case as well. I have recently completed the book “The Gift of Dyslexia” which provides hope that the retraining technique they explain may be successful. I have not yet begun the technique, so I cannot offer a success story, but you may find this to be a valuable path to explore.

I additionally have enjoyed the concepts presented in a (very dated) book called “The Language Crystal” as they relate to dyslexia.

Thank you for your suggestions! I found a free pdf of the Language Crystal on archive.org. Looks really interesting. I’m also going to check out The Gift of Dyslexia. I’ll be curious to hear how it’s working for you and your kids once you’ve started implementing it!

I have also found it interesting how Steiner talks about everything in the astral realm being a mirror image/opposite of the earthly plane and I wonder if this might play into dyslexia too.

One of the main concepts I have garnered from “Gift” is those affected by dyslexia are wired differently, and the dyslexia is “activated” by trying to school them to read too soon. If a child has the opportunity to teach himself to read prior to school, then they may never be affected with this infringement. In the case of my 9yo, I knew we started him in school too young. He was very much still existing in the astral plane, and I feel like putting him in school pulled him out of that plane way too soon. According to the book, once the child experiences the defeat of school, the dyslexia sets in. It can happen at any moment in early schooling, once they feel the correction of teachers/parents/etc.

“Language Crystal” is hard to get through because it was written in the 80s and has a lot of political commentary, but the early chapters explain a few things worth reading. I would love if someone were to pick up on the concepts within this book and rewrite it with a modern outlook, but so far in my search, I have not found a similar writing since.

Kacey, I found a Davis Method practitioner super close to our home and I am considering that route now thanks to your book suggestion and doing some research into the method. I have no idea the cost yet so that may be prohibitive, but do you feel like the book gives you plenty of practical tools to put into action yourself with your kids? Some of the negative reviews on Amazon (which I take with a grain of salt) said they felt like the book was an advertisement to find and work with a Davis Method practitioner. I’m so grateful to have connected with you and really appreciate your support and insights!

My children are full grown adults however I can empathize with your struggles. Perhaps you know of her, an AV member, Dr. Edith Ubuntu Chan has many great resources in her Luminous education series, https://www.luminousrevolution.com/.

And perhaps this website can offer some resources for you as well https://www.youngascendedmasters.com/.
