Just discovered this — Japanese Dorodango, or shiny mud balls.. made from mud/clay, sand, and water.. Already I’ve found that there are slight variations in ways of doing it, such as just digging up dirt, to using already refined clay powder & sand.. I’m already contemplating using natural vegetative colors, like spice powders.. or if you could start with a white clay (such as Bentonite), and color that with spice powders, or fruit or veggie juices (such as beet juice) in place of the water.. One video showed powdered autumn leaves used as the outer color pigment.. So good.. I’m into this.. way into this.. (this video here, plus another one below that, for contrast)..

I’ve watched a few of these shortcut, “hack” type art technique videos recently.. Not how I’m inclined to do things, personally, but I’m definitely intrigued by doing an experiment with just putting some paint on a canvas and manipulating it, see what happens.. and especially using common items not associated with art (like scrub brushes, combs, brillo pads, Q-tips, etc.).. Need ta mass-produce bougie wall art?.. here ya go.. 🤸‍♂️ 😕

I’m not inclined to create in this style, necessarily, but this is a beautiful painting, and I’ve gotten some ideas from this that I’m now mulling over.. So looks like an experiment will happen — dollops of paint on a canvas and see what becomes of it.. I got some ideas for subject matter and such..

I *love* this artist’s style.. and I’ve started a canvas painting that’s a bit in this vein — just splotching colors on the canvas, and then using that as a basis for drawing something out of it, or creating form out of it, “seeing what I can find in it”.. not quite what he does here, but I love the random watercolor as the foil..
