Let’s move to the Land!

For my Canadian friends: How did you go about obtaining land? I don’t REALLY want to go the mortgage route. I work and get compensated privately, so I have no “income” to show a broker anyway. I’m not opposed to mortgage, but it’s not my first choice, and I don’t think I’d qualify, despite having a decent downpayment saved. I know there’s private sale, rent to own type deals as well. What else is there? What worked for you?
