Raw Milk

Does anyone have experience with the sale of raw milk? The corporate jurisdiction of Colorado only ‘allows’ raw milk to be conveyed via a Herd Share agreement, in which the ‘buyer’ purchases interest in the herd for around $50 and pays boarding and labor to the tune of around $14 a gallon for weekly pick up. This would be a fine route except that the state wants the herd shares to be registered…

I have just completed the I AM the living Law class, which is amazing! Yet, I’m still not positive on how best to proceed. Random side note: There is currently a case where an Amish man is getting made example of for selling raw milk via PMA – however, he evidently signed a consent decree with the federal govt to abide by usda regulations (which makes no sense and is from a news source so I’m not sure how reliable and obviously if true, his consent is all that allowed them jurisdiction but I really feel like the whole deal is a false flag to deter raw milk people from forming PMAs and bypassing the state)…but I digress…

I would like to set up a PMA in a private trust to sell raw milk and dairy products (don’t worry Mike, the cows were not raped – they had a lovely neighbor bull come over to woo them). I’m just feeling behind the ball as I haven’t fully mastered my comprehension of setting up a private trust and I’m going to be in the milk, very soon. Does this sound like the best route, as I have nothing set up in the public so far? Or would I want to essentially register the herd share with the state under the LLC that I will be forming as the pass through for the trust?

Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am again buying raw milk from the Amish guy they are hassling.

I found another place today close by me that plays a great tactic in that the Raw Milk and Cream etc is for Pets only.

      Hahaha.

I can’t give any advice other than share how we do it here. A local family 30 miles downstream has several cows, and customers are referred word of mouth prior to having permission from the owner to purchase the raw milk.

I simply park outside the gate guarded by 2 huge dogs that know me as a “friendly”, and walk to a fridge in an open barn with milk that has been collected on that day or the day prior. The milk is in half gallon ball jars, and we all agree to leave $5.00 per 1/2 gallon, and bring the jars back next time thoroughly washed.

Life is so wonderful with the realization that adults needn’t seek permission for ANYTHING.

I believe you do not care about their so called law. That is what Barre is stating.

I would think no business is legally selling raw milk so do it outside their world.

They ended my Raw milk deal as I was buying from Amos but the one time I remember getting raw milk prior was a next door neighbor with a Cow.

They don’t want people getting the idea good health comes logically.

Hey Kelly, something similar here as barre described. A ranch (there’s likely others) outside of town/city limits ‘shares’ their raw milk and fresh eggs which I’m very grateful for. It’s all word of mouth and nourishing on multiple levels. It’s a weekly joy for me to go to the ranch, hang with the animals and connect with like minded men and women. It’s not advice, it’s just what works here. We know the value of life and each other before . . . . . . . all the best on your beautiful journey.

Yeah that’s a tough one, I don’t have any advice or experience, I just wanted to say that I support what you’re doing.

There are establishments in dry counties in Texas that serve alcohol through a PMA. An interesting study would be into the definition of the word “sale.” Again, not advice, just sayin’.

We buy raw milk from a farm where we order online and go pick up from a house about a mile away from us. We walk into their garage, check our name off the list and take the milk out of the fridge.

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful responses! I really appreciate y’all taking the time to reply and it has been so helpful!

I’ll just do a quick update:

Two of the cows have calved within the last month, and as they are first calf heifers (this is their first baby and lactation), they aren’t making an over abundance of milk (1.5 gallons/day) so I have worked deals with some of my closest friends in a barter exchange, which really feels ideal for the time being. I trade for fresh sourdough, a couple hours of childcare (Kai goes to his best friends house and plays for a couple hours without me there!) and work on the farm (a friend who loves natural building and is helping build a root cellar and a sweat lodge) ??

The really large producing cow isn’t due to calve until October so I have a little more time to keep learning, which is great as this small scale experience is helping me to iron out the kinks of providing milk for my community.
