Hey everybody! I’ve got a question. My daughter is developing a small cavity in her tooth, that’s bothering her a bit. So far, I’ve:

    1. Cut out her refined sugars, cut down a little on natural sugars

    2. Coconut oil pulls to keep the area happy

    3. A regimen of stinging nettle tea to help aid in bone healing. I also have some nettle tincture I made but I havent used it on her yet

    4. Aspen bark tincture on rare occasions, if the pain gets out of hand

Im just wondering what y’all would recommend trying? I don’t want to add too much more to the treatment, but if any of you have a suggestion that would be a better replacement for any of the steps I’ve listed, let me know! Its highly likely that it’s a baby tooth (she doesn’t know for sure if she’s lost it or not, and she just came to live with me since this summer, so I have no idea) since I can’t see having developed a cavity on an adult tooth already. I’ve kept her on a good diet since she’s been with me

I’ve had good results with powdered xylitol. It’s a sugar alcohol, which biases the mouth microbiome towards the healthy bacteria and starves the unhealthy. I buy an organic powder, dissolve it in my mouth, swish it around, then spit it out. There’s a lot of good research on xylitol and mouth health.

I recommend organic xylitol. Non-organic sources are corn derived, hence gmo, etc. The organic is also typically corn-based, but free of gmo/glyphosate. There is a birch source, but there are serious sustainability issues with birch. It can also be purchased as a gum and mint.

      Hi Michael,

Interesting, I’ve known about xylitol as a natural sweetener , but never knew it’s use relating to gum/dental health . I’ll add it to the list , cheers .

Organic powdered xylitol, which is effective on its own, is widely available. For maximum effectiveness, it might be necessary to be used regularly throughout the day.

The dental use of Xylitol is very common in Europe especially Scandinavia with many years of proven efficacy. Pure Birch Xylitol is the core ingredient and carrier for the mineral elements and essential oils in my AV Tooth Serum product for that reason. I made this over the years for my own family, which resulted in many requests, so I began making small batches for friends & clients and it’s now our most popular AV product.
