Curious if folks here like or use functional approaches or if that’s obsolete in your opinion? Maybe there is even an Alfacast on this that I’ve missed?? I’m not even close to having listened to all of them.

Context is that I am curious about approaches to my own optimal nutrition given my own work is more mental emotional transformation and impacts the physical in that way. Also from a professional context, I am curious if I will ever add a functional component to my practice or if the deeper trauma resolution piece is really just the core and fullness of what I will focus on. There’s perhaps a lot here, but I’ll keep it short and see what emerges from you all!

Well, one more thing – I know not all functional practices are created equal (to say the least). The Rachel Scheer Nutrition protocol is the one that seems comprehensive that had brought up this inquiry. There are so many options for health, and of course I want to be ever stronger and most informed in the decisions I make for self and recommendations for others. Thank you in advance for any thoughts! 🌿

    Hey Ashley Rose,

While I think the functional route can be a great stepping stone for those stepping out of the conventional world (it was for me several years ago), the fact that you are here as part of the AV fam tells me you likely don’t need that stepping stone as you’ve already made the leap😊

The very wise Dr. Barre has said on a few occasions (I may be paraphrasing) “it’s more important what you THINK about the food that’s on the end of your fork than what’s actually on it”. As someone who received her higher education in the field of human nutrition this resonated with me so deeply that I left a lot of my college programmed beliefs about nutrition behind. Not just from this statement of course, but from a culmination of things I learned from the good doctor and others. These days I focus on intuitive eating, growing my own food, buying raw milk, grass fed meats and pastured eggs from local farmers whenever possible and primarily consuming foods that don’t come with a label. I think simplicity is key.

In my opinion, it sounds like the healing work you are currently doing is exactly what we need more of! I have actually morphed my out nutrition counseling business to more of a mindset/subconscious reprogramming/mental/emotional/spiritual health business. Studying physical radiesthesia and Biogeometry with Dr. Gilbert at the Vesica Institute has been so transformative for myself and my clients as well. As have my studies in GNM/GHK. I’m finding more and more that healing at the subtle energetic/mental/emotional/spiritual levels lead to the physical healing.

      Dear Erin,

Thank you so much!! Very validating – I knew that functional had its place, and this helps confirm my reality and add to it! This enhances my perspective… a GNM takeaway for me is that the food helps nourish us but does not ultimately solve a conflict shock, just makes us stronger so that the psyche can do that. I love what @PennyJuniper shared as well that the functional approach can add more energy so that we can get to work on the internal, truly Knowing and embodying our power.

Overall, I am so glad I asked and it’s a relief to be able to get answers like this! Nice to be surrounded by practitioners like you and all here. Thank you both for sharing your wisdom…I actually teared up a bit after reading Penny’s. Thanks Penny for sharing your perspective as someone who uses functional actively professionally. I figured this group would have some experience and opinions here, and I feel supported! I think the real key is what you say about how anything can work when we are in our power, and that even the power is all we need. I have just been reflecting on this and love how you articulated it.

Erin all the best on your studies at the Vesica Intstitute! Thank you for helping integrate the many things I’ve been learning through many sources in your reply. I think most of my colleagues are more focused in their various sectors and it was nice to have these bigger picture responses. Grateful for the integration and also for the community to strengthen my confidence!

I recognize that despite the allure of getting more normie clients in the door through functional, I will not take that route currently. These replies also made me aware of a shadow motivation that I really want my mother to heal her Hashimoto’s, and my having a functional practice may be a door for her since apparently so far my telling her about it and many other resources hasn’t worked! Lol, how crazy if I were being influenced to get certified because of that!! What a deep inquiry this turned into for me. Grateful for your light as I continue to shine mine in the work I already do!

And gosh yes intuitive eating…I know this is the path for me too, and I eat also as you mentioned (raw milk, local, etc). Still working through some programming (apparently) so thank you for voicing your thoughts and inspiring me. Gosh I can hardly wait til I manifest an in-person community with people like you all!

I did a combined reply to @EY29 and @PennyJuniper , thank you both!! I hope it’s easy enough to follow!

Wow, Ashley Rose, what a beautiful and thoughtful response! I also loved and found Penny’s comments beautiful as well! It’s so interesting that the more I am connecting with beautiful souls like yourself on this platform the more the universe is pulling like minded people into my life in my own community. I imagine you’ll begin to find the same! I feel so blessed to be able to connect from afar and also to experience the joy of in person connections as well 🥰 one of these days I hope to meet many of you at a Music & Sky event!

The inquiry around your desire to learn about functional nutrition in order to help your mom is a wonderful realization. I find myself trying to acquire as much knowledge as possible in order to help the people I love who are suffering as well. I am constantly being reminded of the need to trust and surrender to the fact that I cannot save anyone but myself and the more that I apply what I have learned for the betterment of myself is the only way to truly help others by being that beacon of truth myself.

Hi Ashley, I am a functional nutritionist. It can be used easily in conjunction with things like energy healing and so forth. It has its limitations, as does terrain theory or NGM etc etc. The limitation is the same across the board. One will not entirely heal, until one learns personal sovereignty and who they are. In fact if you learn this, you really don’t need anything or anyone outside of yourself. Functional nutrition can get you to the point of having more energy for that pursuit. It will help until the lights turn on, so to speak.
