Honey in the back yard

As an adjunct to the fruit trees and so forth I have in my yard in Fresno, it occurred to me that I should support the local honey bees. They LOVE the ice plant I have around as it is. I searched for easy peasy ways to harvest honey and found this nifty invention. I would need to keep it small as I’m in the middle of a suburban neighborhood, but my hive could be a benefit overall. I’m a total bee novice and honestly rather bug phobic (LOL) so I’m seeking some wisdom and experience here as a guide. https://www.honeyflow.com/collections/flow-hives/products/flow-hive-hybrid

I look forward to what you discover. In the Anastasia books, she talks about a way to make a hive from an old log. You should be able to run a search for Anastasia bee hive design. The rounded shape is better for the bees just as for us humans, energy flows better in spaces with curves rather than sharp angles. My hope is to one day have a hive that the bees love. Here is a website someone shared with me that looks interesting. https://www.apisarborea.org/diy-treenest-diagram/ Please share what you find!

Well poop – just checked the Fresno City ordinances and apiaries are a no go. I’ll have to wait until I get a more rural property down the line, BUT would still love any information/wisdom ahead of time so I can get that started when the time comes!

Meanwhile there are several road side stands around that sell local raw honey… will just have to stop by those more often.
