Should I do the Supergut Protocol?

I recently read the book Supergut and am strongly considering following the protocol to restore my gut biome. This book is clearly written by someone who is coming from a more traditional understanding of illness and disease. However, I’m finding the ideas of re-introducing important bacteria into my microbiome and addressing fungal overgrowth super compelling (I’ve had athletes foot for over 30 years). I’m curious whether Dr. Barre or others have concerns about this protocol. Could it hurt??

The protocol involves making my own yogurt with three different strains of bacteria. This is the recipe:

10 BioGaia Gastrus tablets, crushed (total 2 billion CFUs), or 2
tablespoons of L. reuteri yogurt (curds and/or whey)
1 capsule Lactobacillus gasseri BNR17 (10 billion CFUs), or
2 tablespoons of L. gasseri yogurt (curds and/or whey)
1 capsule Bacillus coagulans GBI-30,6086 (2 billion CFUs), or 2
tablespoons of B. coagulans yogurt (curds and/or whey)
2 tablespoons prebiotic fiber (inulin or raw potato starch)
1 quart half-and-half or other liquid

And then, the second part of the protocol involves taking non-absorbed curcumin (which is “the principal curcuminoid of turmeric). Curcumin aids in the reduction of fungus.

I make a similar yogurt and feel good anyway so cannot say I feel different, but it sure is a pleasure to eat…love it like a treat!
