Hello Dr. Barre (and any others with suggestions)! I came home from work today and my dog’s face is swollen on one side in what looks like her zygomatic gland. Looking on convention vet sites, they suggest surgery which I would like to avoid and imagine there are holistic therapies. I gave her a TCM trauma formula, NAC, nettles, quercetin and bromelain. Considering putting castor oil or lugol’s iodine topically over the area. If you or others have any suggestions for treatment, it would be much appreciated!

    Hi Krista,

Can you send me a photo or post one so I can take a look? You can start with warm compresses, and mushroom defense from “animal essentials” also, was she outside and possibly exposed to an insect bite? How old and what breed is she?

Thank you for your suggestions, Penny. She wasn’t outside very long yesterday. It did come on suddenly and was there when I came home from work, but not present in the earlier part of the day.

    Hi Krista,

It it a hard mass or kinda squishy? Did you examine her teeth/gums in that area?

Ok I would keep doing the warming packs 3 times a day, and the mushroom defense, and a couple drops of colloidal silver in her eye, we want to make sure that eye stays ok. From what I can see the eye looks good right now. I would suspect it will resolve on its own by doing these things. If not and it doesn’t improve and you want to take her to the ER to get an exam or ultrasound, you can come back here with her diagnosis and I can give you other suggestions. You can exam her further and see if there is any foreign body entrance points too, (dots or sores)if you think she is in a lot of pain, you can also get her some CBD for pets, it’s amazing stuff. Keep and eye on her to make sure her energy is ok, she’s eating/drinking and eliminating normally. You can also learn how to take her rectal temperature, it’s good for any pet parent to know how to do, and also check her respiratory and heart rate.

Btw, if you do get an exam, you can always tell them no to any treatment plan that you feel is wrong for your critters. Keep me posted and hopefully Barre will have something I haven’t thought of. I know his zero point solution for pets is very supportive in healing.

One more thing, I use quantum touch and it really is fabulous. We all have natural healing tools that are our hands. Just place your hands gently on each side of her snout and visualize energy rising up from your feet all the way to the top of your head, then see it spreading down into your arms to your hands and into her snout, filling her head with light and think simple words such as “wellness, healing, love” while breathing slowly and deeply.

This is a workbook on how to exercise this innate ability in all of us, he tried to make it as simple to learn as possible, as he believes it is everyone’s right to use this ability. I can’t say enough good things about quantum touch. https://quantumtouch.com/en/quantum-touch-store/product/quantum-touch-the-power-to-heal

Penny! Thank you so much for all of your shares. I appreciate it tremendously!! I am happy to share that she is doing much better today and the swelling has almost gone away. I did look at her gums and they look fine, and the swollen area was squishy and not hard. I used what I had on hand and am excited to add your remedies to my toolkit. I used warm compresses as you suggested, and did put castor oil and lugol’s on top of the area. Gave her the supplements and herbs I originally mentioned, and added shilajit, humic and fulvic, zeolite, and activated charcoal. Today, I didn’t feed her any solids and gave her raw A2 butter, 2 raw pastured eggs, and chicken bone broth with seaweed flakes to give her body the chance to focus on healing and not digesting so much. She has an apt with her holistic vet on Monday as well. Many blessings to you and this community ?

Hi Everyone- An update that she did have a broken tooth which had abscessed on one of her back molars. It was extracted last Thursday and she was prescribed antibiotics. I am also giving her TCM herbs for abscesses and to clear heat as she had a bit of a fever after the extraction. I’m rubbing castor oil topically on the gums and giving her additional supplements for detoxification and tissue healing in her food. Today, I checked her mouth and her gums behind the extracted tooth had started to swell. I will take her back to the vet tomorrow. Concerned the abscess spread to the adjacent tooth and they stitched up the pocket so I imagine there is bacteria in there… though I can’t imagine leaving it unstitched would be better as she needs to eat and I wouldn’t want food getting in to the wound. I am giving her a probiotic in rotation as well. If anyone has additional guidance or personal experience with tooth abscess and extraction, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.

Hi Everyone- Happy to share that she is doing well now and her gums are looking much better. Possibly some of the swelling was from the extraction surgery and stitches and not a spread of infection, though I’m keeping an eye on it and she has her vet follow-up soon as well. Keeping up with the internal supplemental and herbal protocols and now putting coconut oil + Resinall K alternating with ADV’s DMSO gum tincture + coconut oil on her gums. Clear Heat by Health Concerns really helped lower her post-op fever and it also clears tooth abscesses. I also did give her the prescribed antibiotic due to the nature of a tooth abscess and it being harder to monitor in a pup. First time she’s ever been on one, and rebuilding her gut with raw A2 kefir and probiotics. She’s been doing zoomies and acting like a very young lady! I feel she broke her tooth chewing her daily bully stick… plus she is a pitt mix and chomps through hard things pretty quickly. No more bully sticks, and I’m continuing to dial-in her nutrition for her teeth and gums.
