Hello! My dad 66yo has this burning/tingling sensation under his feet since 4-5months.

To give some history- he was a professor (now retired) by profession,12 years ago he underwent pancreatectomy (Whipple procedure), and he started using Metformin 500mg since 10years. I am not really sure he needs it as they prescribed it when his hba1c was 6.4 and even today it is the same. He is scared to stop using it. He has used statin drugs on and off for 20years and has not used them in the last 5 years. He has constipation issue (goes once in 2-3 days) and is used to that. Sleep pattern 4-6hr at a Strech, has to wake up to pee after that time and does not go back to sleep. He does not drink a lot of water as he does not get thirsty, and I am trying to change that and also make him have water before his early morning coffee. He is a vegetarian who eats eggs and does not consume alcohol. He may be having some muscle loss as he has this feeling of bones touching when sitting on hard surfaces.

He is here with me in the US for a couple of months, could you please suggest things that can help him. He is seeing changes in bowel movements since he came here-I am giving him structured water and 12in1 cell salts. He is more regular but is a little worried about the change as it does not feel the same as before, no feeling of pressure that he has to go. He has lot of trust in medical doctors and “science” but thanks to my mom (who is the exact opposite) he is not on many other drugs they recommended and takes a pretty clean diet. I may not be able to convince him to do UT/enemas but anything else I am pretty sure I can.

TIA. Looking forward for some suggestions to help with this burning/tingling sensation under his feet.

    Hi Divya,

I see that no one replied to your concern about burning/tingling sensation in feet. My boyfriend has similar issues with his feet. He says it feels like he is walking on glass. He’s 65 and recently lost a lot of weight when he stopped drinking alcohol. These symptoms started shortly afterwards. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated

Alcohol and metformin can both cause b vitamin deficiencies, particularly, but not limited to, thiamine. Thiamine deficiency can cause such issues in the feet. Both alcohol and metformin can also affect magnesium levels, and most Americans are low in magnesium to start with. Low magnesium can cause muscle cramps, insomnia and constipation.

Thank you Penny! I will try to find a good vitamin B supplement for him as well as increasing his magnesium
