Hello Deb!

So happy to be here and connect with you. I have three small jiaogulan plants. I did not transplant them in a timely manner and they began to die. I brought them inside and they are coming back to life. I will plant them into the ground next year. I’m in zone 9B. Do you have any suggestions for their care please?

Welcome to my discussion group! So good to hear that you’re contributing to the domestic cultivation of Jiao Gu Lan. It is a lovely vine, and fresh Jiao Gu Lan tea is the best. You’re definitely on track, by wintering it indoors. The recovery can be expedited with a simple seed mat to assure proper warmth if necessary, and be sure to periodically sprinkle a small dose of organic nitrogen fertilizer during the winter. Normal soil amending and/or transplanting should be done at the onset of the new growing cycle, however. They should be good to go for outdoor planting in Spring. JGL does not do well in direct sunlight, and well draining loamy soil is best … they will wilt quickly with insufficient water, so keep things moist without over-watering.
