I’m just halfway through the conversation at this moment, but a big stand-out for me so far was Michelle’s mention of a potential Star Fort location near the Bybee wetlands in Portland.. This is my neighborhood! — the St. Johns neighborhood of N. Portland, and the wetlands are just up the way from me, literally a casual walk through the ‘hood..

This neighborhood is referred to as The Peninsula, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.. It’s the most far-flung neighborhood from downtown Portland, and it’s not a pass-through neighborhood, because it terminates at the rivers.. (So, as they say, if you’re in St. Johns, you came for a reason, a destination, not just driving through on your way to somewhere else)..

There are several shipping ports along the river, all the way up to the tip of the peninsula (photo included).. Many warehouses in vicinity of the ports, and yes, a railway, as Michelle mentioned.. The train tracks are 3 blocks from my place, and do I love the sound of trains.. Lol.. 🚂

As such, this neighborhood is a trucking corridor, with trucks going to and fro from the warehouses.. Goes on all day, and specific thoroughfares are very noisy with big rig trucks zipping through.. I live one block from the main trucking corridor, but thankfully the noise is rather contained and not noticeable.. 🚛

But, with all this infrastructure, being a textbook situation, as Michelle pointed out, I wonder what really happened here in the past.. I wonder what her thoughts are on a potential Star Fort — looking at the map, I’m guessing she’s referring to the tip of the peninsula at Kelley Point Park..

Another thing — folks that live in the St. Johns neighborhood are very specific in character and it’s very well known that folks are drawn here, very specifically, and it’s a very very resonant location, also being very working-class and down-to-earth, and salt-of-the-earth, no-nonsense mentality, especially the older established residents and families.. On the other hand, the condo boom that took off some years ago hit this ‘hood too — around 2012 there was a flurry of condo building and gentrification, but thankfully that’s leveled out and essentially stopped.. So gross the ugliness that was brought to the ‘hood with those soul-less buildings.. And I must say, the condo-dwellers are people that are *way* out of place in this part of town.. Most seem to stay indoors (Lol), but when you see them, you know who they are.. A distinct “out-of-place” energy.. It’s like they came here to try to make this the new cool place to be, but that b.s. was largely rejected or ineffective..

Anyhoo, a bit of a ramble there.. But that’s all to say that it’s energetically distinct up in here.. So should I go scouting and digging for a Star Fort now??.. Is *that* my next agenda??.. Lol.. Who wants to grab a shovel and join me??.. 🌟
